Meet Al, Hivebrite’s Manager of US Onboarding. In this interview, he shares what his team does to help customers go from handover to launch with confidence, plus his own path from CSM to onboarding to management. It’s a candid look at how he leads, what he loves about Hivebrite, and the kind of people who thrive here.

Tell us a little bit about your job and your team’s mission?

As the Manager of US Onboarding, I lead a team of onboarding specialists whose mission is to deliver a smooth, value‑driven onboarding experience that shortens time to value and ensures long‑term customer satisfaction. We guide clients from the sales handover through discovery, configuration, data migration, and launch. We focus on ensuring a seamless journey from sales to onboarding, with a focus on the customer’s goals and objectives. We work with a wide range of clients—from established organizations (Fortune 500) to top education partners. Beyond managing the workflow, I’m hands‑on with escalations, process improvements, and cross‑department collaboration to keep evolving the onboarding experience and meeting customer needs. Our overarching mission is to set clients up for long‑term success and create a seamless transition into their ongoing lifecycle with Hivebrite.

What do you like most about working at Hivebrite?

Hivebrite feels like home. I joined in 2019 when there were only seven of us building operations in the US. What I appreciate most is the opportunity to grow with the company alongside many of the same people who were here on day one. It’s been great to see how the company has evolved—and equally rewarding to witness the growth of so many talented teammates across the organization.

You started as a CSM, then an onboarding specialist, and now a manager. Was that always the plan?

Honestly, it wasn’t the plan. I followed what interested me. Early on at Hivebrite, we all did a bit of everything: I handled onboarding and later acted as the CSM for the same accounts. When the teams eventually split, I was the only person who wanted to stay full‑time in onboarding because it was what I enjoyed most. Helping customers set up their communities—and the challenge of working with different companies and industries—was what I loved then and still love today. From there, it naturally led me to a leadership role where I could support other onboarding specialists and help the team grow.

You hadn’t managed before your current position—how did you take on that challenge?

I hadn’t officially held the manager title before, but I had served as a team lead both at Hivebrite and in previous organizations. Stepping into a manager role came with a different level of responsibility, and I took that seriously. I invested in developing my management style through self‑learning—reading books, listening to podcasts, and exploring different approaches to leadership. It also helped that Hivebrite invested in our growth with formal manager training, which gave me additional tools to be successful.

How do you work with your team and what are your rituals?

We run global team meetings and US‑based team meetings, and of course we stay connected via our Slack channel. We try to be supportive of one another and stay in touch daily. From my side, I bring the experience I’ve gained at Hivebrite, stay close to each team member, and remain available to support them. I like being on the field with the team and with customers—it’s where the work is most energizing.

Working at hivebrite

Your department is spread across the globe—how do you handle that day to day?

In a global team, time management is essential. I start my day earlier to handle topics with team members outside the US. I typically prioritize those conversations in the morning, ideally before 12pm ET, when most of our EU colleagues are offline. It’s actually quite manageable—and fun—to work with people across the world. Despite the time zones, my work‑life balance is really good, which is something I truly value at Hivebrite.

In your opinion, who thrives at Hivebrite?

People who are adaptable, collaborative, and genuinely enjoy solving problems. Those eager to learn, bring high energy, and can identify issues while proposing solutions tend to shine. As a growing company with ambitious goals and ongoing initiatives, we need people who can contribute to shared objectives and confidently take on projects that help us move faster. Folks who embrace change, take initiative, and are motivated by delivering value to customers will thrive here. And importantly: people with ideas. Since I’ve been here, I’ve seen new ideas welcomed. If you have an idea with a plan, Hivebrite will let you run with it—which amplifies creativity and growth.

Fun fact

My name is Albert, after my father, Alberto. He has nine brothers, all with names starting with the letter “A.” My brother’s name also starts with an A—Alan.

Al’s journey shows what’s possible when people are trusted to lead. Hivebrite gave him the space to take ownership, and he’s turned that into real impact for customers. After wearing multiple hats early on, he now leads US Onboarding—helping clients launch smoothly while coaching his team as they grow. “Hivebrite feels like home,” he says: a place where you’re trusted, supported, and set up to do your best work.

In the bustling tech scene of Paris, you’ll find Luc writing code and crafting solutions at Hivebrite’s vibrant office. As a Senior Developer in the Evolution Tribe, his four-year journey showcases what’s possible when talent meets opportunity. Between coding sessions, you might spot him enjoying the sunshine on the office terrace or brainstorming with colleagues. His story shows how passion, dedication, and the right environment can shape an exceptional tech career.

From junior to senior: Luc’s growth journey

When Luc joined Hivebrite, he brought basic programming knowledge and experience from his work with an NGO. His strongest asset wasn’t technical expertise but rather his hunger to learn and create. “I was super motivated and full of ideas, but I needed guidance,” he remembers. The Evolution Tribe provided exactly what he needed—an environment where questions sparked discussions and every challenge became a learning opportunity.

Working alongside experienced developers, Luc built his technical expertise step by step. He mastered Go programming, embraced software craftsmanship, and learned to navigate complex product engineering processes. Hivebrite supported his development through structured learning resources and dedicated time for personal growth.

Today, Luc tackles various technical challenges, including innovative AI projects with the User Journey Tribe. His next chapter involves joining the Developer Efficiency and Architecture squad, where he’ll focus on core technical challenges that match his interests. This progression shows how Hivebrite enables developers to shape their career paths according to their passions.

Why Hivebrite feels like home

The Hivebrite office stands out as more than a workplace—it’s where creativity meets community. Team bonding happens naturally through after-work gatherings and planned activities. Luc recalls a memorable hackathon focused on enhancing the app’s global search capabilities: “We were munching pizza, geeking out, and ended up in third place. It was fun!”

The tech team’s vibe is like a family. “Everyone’s close, and we genuinely enjoy hanging out.” Whether it’s coding side-by-side or jetting off for “Nomad” trips together, the team’s bond is real.

A fun anecdote? These bonds extend beyond regular office hours. At a recent offsite, the Larzac squad (SRE team) created their own pop-up “557” store, named after their bungalow number. With handmade menus, playful themes, and plenty of good humor, the initiative became a highlight of the trip, showcasing the team’s creativity and sense of fun.

Making an impact beyond code

Luc’s role goes far beyond writing lines of code. As a mentor, he’s a go-to person for storage, dev environment setup, and key app modules. He’s passionate about sharing knowledge and initiating new ideas and solutions.
A proud moment? To name just one: two years ago, he proposed a simpler approach to full-text search. Finding Elasticsearch too complex for certain use cases, he took the initiative to introduce pg_tsvector. This decision was a personal turning point, marking the beginning of his self-confidence and a new willingness to take ownership. “I evangelized the approach, and now it’s being used more and more in the app,” he says.
His work continues to shape Hivebrite’s technical direction. Recently, he’s focused on AI-oriented projects, developing Python services that enhance the platform’s capabilities. His efforts show how individual developers can influence technical strategy while staying current with emerging technologies.

Advice for future Hivebriters

Thinking of applying? Luc’s got some tips: “Bring a solid technical foundation—OOP knowledge is key—and a love for getting your hands dirty. Be proactive, propose ideas, and thrive on autonomy.” Hivebrite’s massive product offers endless configurations and challenges, perfect for devs who love variety. With some legacy code and new programming languages on the horizon (AI’s shaking things up!), you’ll need to be adaptable and eager to experiment, which makes the job very exciting.

Fun facts and team rituals

A quirky tidbit about Luc? His coworker and friend Franck runs a Slack channel where he posts Luc’s “outfit of the day” like a true influencer. “One night, our CEO liked six of my posts at 1 a.m. I was shook!” he chuckles. His favorite team tradition? Friday evenings on the office terrace, sipping drinks with colleagues. “It’s cozy, welcoming, and brings us closer,” he says.

Why join Hivebrite?

Hivebrite team
Luc’s story sums it up: Hivebrite trusted him from day one, and he’s paid it back with growth and impact. From junior to senior, he’s tackled every step, learned tons, and now mentors others. “This place lets you shine,” he says. With a modern stack, meaningful projects, and a team that feels like family, Hivebrite is where tech dreams come alive. Ready to code, connect, and grow? A story at Hivebrite awaits! We are back with our #HBSuperhero series! This time, we spoke to Sandy, Hivebrite’s Front End Developer! Discover her biggest challenge, most remarkable achievement, and what she likes most about her role!

Meet the Team: Sandy, Front End Developer

Tell us about your background!

Hi everyone, I work as a Front End Developer at Hivebrite.

I would say I have quite an atypical background for a developer.

I started my professional career as a hairstylist. During this time, I began to teach myself coding on the weekend—just for fun!

When health reasons required me to stop working in hairdressing, I decided to turn my passion for coding into a career and enrolled in a professional training program for developers.

As soon as I completed my training, I interned as a Full Stack Developer for a real estate startup before joining Hivebrite.

Outside of work I enjoy playing video games and role play games like Dungeons and Dragons.

What made you want to work at Hivebrite?

I put a lot of time and thought into my job search. I wanted to find a caring company where I could learn and grow professionally.

My first interview at Hivebrite was with a fellow Dev. I really appreciated speaking with someone from my profession who could give me everyday insights into the role I was applying for.

We had a valuable exchange that enabled Hivebrite to start to assess if I was a good fit for the company and also for me to evaluate if Hivebrite was a good fit for me.

What’s your superpower at Hivebrite?

I have been told that I am a caring colleague who looks out for the people I work with and can be counted on.

What motivates you to come to work?

The opportunity to work with wonderful people. I feel inspired, challenged, and encouraged by my colleagues. Our company culture encourages us to innovate, try new things, and not be afraid of failure.

How has Hivebrite’s product challenged you?

The product is enormous, and I admit, in the beginning, this was quite intimidating. But the team is so talented and supportive—they really helped me to get to grips with the product, learn on the job, and become more and more confident in my role!

What skills have you developed in the role?

I have learnt new coding languages, specifically Ruby and Ruby on Rails!

Could you share with us one of your proudest Hivebrite moments?

I worked on two big feature releases employing the new languages I learnt at Hivebrite. I got great feedback on both in terms of look and feel and usability.

Tell us something outsiders don’t know about Hivebrite!

What can start as a quick drink after work can often transform into several drinks and dancing at our local bar!

How would you describe the company culture?

Human-centric and inclusive. At Hivebrite, everyone has their place, and everyone’s opinion is welcome and valid.

What advice would you give to someone joining Hivebrite’s Dev Team?

The product can be overwhelming at first. But remember, you are surrounded by a caring, supportive team that wants to help you succeed.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and challenge the status quo—we value people with initiative and motivation to learn!

Ready for a new challenge? Check out our open positions here!

2023 Community Project

“As 2023 comes along, we are excited for the launch of our official Planeteer clubs. This will bring climate action to Planeteer communities around the world to deepen the connections.

As Community Manager, I predict that our clubs will increase the amount of young people who we can engage in climate work and empower them to be impactful changemakers.”

iac Berlin was created by the foundation, Robert Bosch Stiftung, as a Do and Think Tank to support the development of impact-oriented networks and coordinate the Bosch Alumni Network.iac Berlin Community

2022 Community Highlight

“The Bosch Alumni Network is a network of more than 8,000 members from all over the world. It started with a classic “hub and spoke” setup and continues to develop into a decentralized network of communities driven by members who assume responsibility for topics, regional groups, or initiatives. This development significantly gained speed and ownership in 2022, providing a strong proof of concept for our understanding of successful impact networks.”

2023 Community Project

“The international restrictions due to the COVID pandemic disrupted a central binding element of healthy networks: the physical meeting of members and the resulting strong times among them. At the same time, the pandemic offered an opportunity to experiment with digital formats, which opened doors and led to more accessibility and opportunities to develop similarly important weak ties.

The challenge now will be to properly understand and work with this shift—especially as meetings are becoming possible again.”

Tobias Gerber, Head of Communications and Community Management, iac Berlin

“Every March, the VMC facilitates Cultural Diversity Week (CDW), a celebration of Victoria’s diverse and powerful multicultural communities. We will encourage people to register their CDW event on the VMConnect calendar. This will likely increase the user visits to the site and overall engagement with existing members.

We continue to promote VMConnect across our channels and are hoping for it to have a presence in emerging and new multicultural communities in Victoria and to grow the membership of our groups.”

2022 Community Highlight

“We launched our community this year, so our highlight was getting our alumni to activate their Hub accounts.

We issued invitations to over 300 people who participated in our programs, and about 230 eventually activated their accounts.”

2023 Community Project

“We have two significant changes planned for 2023. Firstly, we have recruited volunteer Alumni Representatives in three countries. These people will remain in this role for 12 months and will be responsible for organizing networking events and coordinating additional support to Alumni in their countries. They’ll also be responsible for administering a country group on our Leaders Hub.

We are also deploying the Mentoring module inside our community. Our program has always provided mentoring as part of its offering, but this will be the first time we have administered it online. It will involve inviting external mentors to the online community for the first time, so I look forward to seeing how that goes.”

Tell us more about yourself!

Hi, everyone! I’m an Implementation Specialist at Hivebrite.

I kickstarted my career in marketing, working at Nokia. I later transitioned to customer success management before concentrating on implementation.

Why did you choose to work at Hivebrite?

I was exploring new career opportunities with a recruiter. When they presented the role at Hivebrite, I jumped at the idea. I had already had an enjoyable experience working for an intranet software company and was curious to learn more about connecting people and the power of communities.

Plus, Hivebrite had just opened its New York office, so it was an opportunity to be one of the first US team employees and help build the US entity from the ground up!

What does a typical day with the Implementation Team look like?

A big chunk of my day is spent talking to customers—finding out about their community’s goals and how they can use Hivebrite’s platform to achieve them.

I also spend a lot of time doing what I like to call investigation work. Hivebrite’s platform is huge, with new features and updates regularly coming out.

I need to liaise with the Product Team to find out more about upcoming platform improvements and discuss the different ways features can be employed. Sometimes the team and I are required to think outside the box to imagine creative, original ways customers can use our platform’s features to reach their communities’ goals.

What’s your superpower at Hivebrite?

I’m often complimented on my patience and cool, calm, and collected demeanor.

I’m frequently faced with challenges and thrown curveballs, but my optimistic, can-do attitude helps me succeed!

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I really enjoy meeting different people and understanding their community’s missions and goals!

Hivebrite powers so many diverse communities. One morning, I could be talking to a customer wanting to build an international gaming community to drive brand awareness and engagement amongst fans, the next to a representative of a nonprofit organization wanting to create a community to drive and accelerate their cause.

Could you share with us one of your proudest Hivebrite moments?

GovCon is a membership community to drive federal contractor success. I worked with the community’s founder to help them launch in an impressive two weeks!

Watch our webinar to discover more on how Al and GovCon worked together to launch the community in two weeks!

[Webinar Replay] How GovCon Club Successfully Launched a Membership Community in Record Time

What skills have you developed in the role?

I would say empathy without a doubt. Empathy is critical for my role.

Launching a community is exhilarating! But it can also be challenging and overwhelming—there are many things to decide and do in the run-up to ensure a successful launch!

I need to understand and be sensitive to our customers’ feelings, thoughts, and experiences.

What advice would you give to an organization wanting to start a community?

Having a clear vision for your community is critical. You need to clearly define your community’s goals and how you plan to achieve these goals.

Tell us something about Hivebrite that only insiders know.

We’re a fun bunch and definitely know how to have a good time when we all get together!

How would you describe Hivebrite’s company culture?

Everyone makes a difference. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first week or your fifth year at Hivebrite, all ideas are welcome!

What advice would you give to someone joining Hivebrite?

Take your time to get to grips with the product—think of your first week as syllabus week at school!

meet_jeremy

Hello Jeremy! Tell us more about yourself!

Hi all, I grew up in a small town near Paris.

I originally wanted to be an economist. After graduating, I headed to London to improve my English. Here, I worked in a cinema, as a club promoter and a bartender (espresso martini was my signature cocktail, in case you’re wondering)!

During this time, I realized I wanted a career where I could use my creativity and my passion for numbers. I decided that marketing was the best way for me to combine these two worlds!

An opportunity at VistaPrint in Barcelona enabled me to learn the marketing ropes and kickstart my marketing career.

Outside work, I love to set myself sporting challenges and have run several half marathons and a full marathon. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing new cultures—my most recent trip was to Cuba! I have been a huge PSG fan since I’m 12 years old, but you probably already guessed that from my photo!

Why did you choose to work at Hivebrite?

I was Hivebrite’s first marketing hire. The challenge of setting up a marketing department from scratch appealed to me!

Plus, during the interview process, I was impressed with the passion of the people I met. I wanted to join the adventure and work with these people!

What’s your superpower at Hivebrite?

I’d say my superpower is that I’m the swiss army knife of marketing. I enjoy getting involved with projects from different fields of marketing—from paid campaigns and SEO to strategy and forecasting.

I also love working with data and analytics to ensure we make data-driven decisions.

Could you share with us one of your proudest Hivebrite moments?

I am proud of the marketing team we have built. I started on my own in 2019, and now we are six! We have created a growth marketing machine, doubling almost every year in terms of leads!

I also won Hivebrite’s most recent poker night, which was no easy feat given the level of our poker players here, so it is definitely something I like to brag about!

Tell us something about Hivebrite that only insiders know.

Almost every organization can benefit from an online community. At Hivebrite, we power a diverse range of use cases across all sectors. We even support a community for barbecue lovers!

How would you describe Hivebrite’s company culture?

Open-minded, international, progressive, and human.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The variety of projects—no day is ever the same!

What skills have you developed in the role?

I have to work closely with other departments, especially Sales. This has helped me improve at putting myself in other people’s shoes—understanding their challenges and priorities and working together to create sustainable solutions.

Thanks to our croissant tradition, I have also learnt the importance of laptop security. You can meet the creator of the tradition here.

What’s the biggest challenge in marketing at the moment?

We can no longer rely on cookies to give information on potential prospects to help us optimize and personalize campaigns.

It is now critical to have a first-party data strategy. A first-party data strategy requires a solid action plan for collecting customer data, how that data is used to enhance the customer experience, and how the brand will earn consumers’ trust over time.

We need to understand our audience, create a buyer journey with relevant and meaningful content and build trust.

What is the hottest marketing trend right now?

I would say automation and how marketers can use it to save time and improve the user experience (as long as it doesn’t replace us)! Automation is especially powerful when combined with personalization—Spotify is an excellent example of this!

Chatbots such as Intercom can deliver instant quality answers. Email automation software sends only the most relevant communication to people based on preference and past behavior.

PPC automation software can take care of micro actions such as setting up bidding rules and optimizing keyword lists. Automating these tasks gives us more time to focus on strategy and other high-value tasks.

What advice would you give to someone looking to join Hivebrite?

Be curious.

At Hivebrite, your only limit is yourself. If you ask questions and want to try new stuff, nobody will prevent you from doing so as long as you explain your strategy and how you will measure the results.

Newcomers’ opinions are incredibly valuable, as they have a fresh perspective on our current ways of doing things.

I would give precisely the same advice to someone looking to join the Marketing Team.

We are back with our #HBSuperhero series! This time, we spoke to Jeff, Hivebrite’s Information Security Officer! Discover more about Jeff’s role, his proudest moments, “croissanting” colleagues, and more!

Meet the Team: Jeff, Information Security Officer

Jeff, it’s not every day we get to interview an Information Security Officer! Tell us more about your story!

I’m originally from Nice, a city in the south of France on the French Riviera. I studied engineering and majored in cyber security, cryptography, privacy, and networking.

In the last year of my degree, I did a one-year apprenticeship as a Backend Developer at SecludIT, a cyber security software company. I went on to work at SecludIT for two years as a full-time Backend Developer.

At that time, I was living in Sophia-Antipolis, near Nice. In Sophia-Antipolis, there were regular meet-ups between developers from the city—everyone would gather for coffee and insightful exchanges.

This is where I met Maxime, our Senior Developer and eventually met Flo, our Head of Data, and Jean, our CEO. They were looking to hire a Backend Developer and we started having some exciting conversations. Things went well and I ended up being hired!

I worked remotely for a year and then moved to Paris. My move also brought me closer to another one of my passions: the punk music scene! I organized several punk concerts in Paris— some of which were attended by Hivebrite team members.

I’ve now been at Hivebrite for five years. I started as a Backend Developer. I gradually moved to Site Reliability Engineering and then worked as the Technical Product Owner. Now I am working as Hivebrite’s Information Security Officer.

Why did you choose to work at Hivebrite?

I was ready for a new challenge. Before working at Hivebrite, I had only worked for one other company. So I was also curious to see what it was like working elsewhere.

I was eager to discover a new team and a new product. I was impressed by the product from the beginning; it was immense and more interesting than the product in my previous role.

I’m very happy at Hivebrite in terms of personal and professional growth.

What’s your superpower at Hivebrite?

Not sure if I can call it a superpower, but I like to think that I create a positive atmosphere in the office.

I am easy going and enjoy getting to know all team members. Plus, I have brightly coloured hair making me easy to spot from afar!

I also invented Hivebrite’s infamous “croissant” tradition—more on this later!

Could you share with us one of your proudest Hivebrite moments?

I arrived at Hivebrite “three offices” ago. When I first started, there were only ten of us and the product had fewer features than it has today.

Today we have more than 150 collaborators, offices in multiple countries, and a product with incredible features. It’s inspiring to reflect on our journey and everything we have achieved.

Another one of my proudest moments is bringing our Chief Revenue Officer to a punk concert I organized!

How would you describe Hivebrite’s company culture?

Everyone I met five years ago is still a friend today. Hivebrite is a company where people stay for the long haul. I’ve seen people marry, have kids, buy homes, and move to another country, all while working at Hivebrite.

We have a lot of benefits for employees and a flexible remote policy.

We can openly discuss our challenges with colleagues and work together to develop solutions.

I genuinely believe that we have created something special here at Hivebrite.

Why is protecting and properly treating member data more critical than ever?

We have witnessed an increase in ransomware attacks on companies since the Covid-19 pandemic began. These attacks encrypt companies’ data, forcing them to pay to access their own data.

Losing access to data is still manageable, but the worst thing is when this data is disclosed to the public. Data must always be protected.

The first thing to remember is that you need to be in control of your data.

Protecting end-user data is crucial for private online communities—it’s vital for building a safe and secure online space where trust can grow and members feel comfortable participating.

Find out more about how Hivebrite protects member data here.

You’re the flagbearer of the infamous croissants tradition at the office! How and why did you start it?

Haha, the infamous croissant tradition started at my previous company. I brought it to Hivebrite four years ago because people need to be careful with their devices. If you don’t lock your device, anyone can extract any data from your computer.

As of today at Hivebrite, if anyone steps away from their laptop without locking it, they get “croissanted” and have to bring croissants to the office for everyone!

Could you share a simple security practice that many people overlook?

Use a multi-factor authentication tool (MFA). When you log in on any website, an MFA tool provides another passcode that will add an extra layer of security to your accounts. This passcode is usually a six-digit code sent to your smartphone.

You can use a free tool like the Aegis Authenticator to do this. The app will provide you with a code that will protect your accounts from being easily hacked.

Apart from this, don’t take calls discussing sensitive information in public.

What advice would you give to someone looking to join Hivebrite?

Be clear about what you want to do. If you know what you want to do but don’t perfectly fit the role that you are applying for, that’s ok. Talk to us and let’s figure out if we can adapt the role to your skills and aspirations!

Ready for a new challenge? Check out our open positions here!

Meet the Team: Mélodie, HR Manager

What is your story, Mélodie? Could you tell us a little bit more about yourself?

Hey everyone! I am originally from Senlis, a city in the north of France famous for its Cathédrale Notre-Dame.

I have spent most of my career working in Paris! I first came to Paris to complete my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources (HR) at Sorbonne University. After graduating, I decided to pursue Law. I knew that to be a good HR Manager, I would need to have a solid understanding of employment laws.

For my end-of-study internship, I worked in the HR department of a startup called Brands and Celebrities, an influencer marketing platform. It was there that I met my current manager at Hivebrite, Clémence. After my internship, I landed an excellent position at Seelk (now owned by Jellyfish), a tech agency supporting brands to maximize their performance on Amazon. Here, I developed their HR department from scratch.

About one and a half years later, Clémence contacted me regarding an opportunity at Hivebrite. She wanted someone to work alongside her to build Hivebrite’s HR department from the bottom up. I was delighted to be able to work with Clémence again.

That’s how I ended up at Hivebrite!

What does a typical day look like for you as an HR Manager?

I love my job. It is incredibly diverse, including people, Law, and engaging administrative tasks.

I juggle between HR laws of various countries like – France, Australia, Indonesia, India, Colombia, and Spain. But my main focus is the French market.

On a typical day, interviews take up forty per cent of my day. About thirty per cent of my day is dedicated to administrative tasks like managing payroll, drafting employment agreements, and taking care of other financial paperwork.

I dedicate the final thirty per cent to working on our employer brand and exciting initiatives to attract and retain talent.

What’s your superpower at Hivebrite?

I’m not sure if it’s a superpower, but what helps me most in my role is that I am a naturally curious person.

I love to learn more about people working and wanting to work at Hivebrite. I want to understand people and what matters to them so I can support them to reach their full potential.

I can adapt to different people from different cultures. This skill is essential at Hivebrite, where we have employees from more than 30 countries. Someone who lives in the US is different from someone in France, so you cannot ask the same questions when interviewing.

You need to be a chameleon and adapt, and that’s the fun part about being an HR Manager!

How would you describe Hivebrite’s company culture?

At Hivebrite, you are free to be yourself.

We believe in a rich and diverse work culture. We believe that our differences are a strength and contribute to a thriving work culture.

Trust is an integral part of our work culture. If you’re hired at Hivebrite, it means that we trust you! You might not tick every box on the job requirements list, but having the motivation and right mindset to learn on the job is what matters.

What’s unique to Hivebrite?

As cliché as it might sound, we care about employees at Hivebrite. This can sometimes mean making decisions that are not business-oriented but people-oriented.

We make sure that people feel free to be themselves and have what they need to be comfortable and excel in their roles. It’s not perfect, but it’s a healthy place to work where people acknowledge that there is always room for improvement.

Tell us something that outsiders don’t know about Hivebrite.

Le Lafitte bar, our local “watering hole”! Most days after work, we end up in this bar to grab a drink and catch up outside of work.

Could you explain the hiring process at Hivebrite?

We try to make the process as seamless as possible for our candidates. We want to make sure that they have a positive experience. The process usually takes ten days but can differ from one position to another.

The first call is with the hiring manager. The goal is to deep dive into the job description and the candidate’s experience.

After this step, the candidate has a call with a member of the HR team to understand their career plan better and assess if they are a good cultural fit. This call is also an opportunity for the candidate to ask questions about the company and our culture!

We often ask candidates to complete a task to test their skills and then present it to the hiring manager.

Are there any critical skills or qualities you look for in all positions?

Apart from the skills you need for the role, we ensure that you would be a good fit for Hivebrite’s culture. You could be excellent at what you do, but we would hesitate to hire you if you don’t fit with our culture that I described earlier.

Another important thing is the ability to speak in English. We have employees from all over the globe, so our working language is English for everyone to understand each other.

Could you tell us about how you nurture and retain employees at Hivebrite?

We strive to treat everyone equally at Hivebrite. This can sometimes be tricky as not all countries are on the same page in terms of employment agreements and laws, but it is something we are working on!

We understand that being able to work from home is important for our employees, and we have developed a flexible remote policy.

We are also working on an exchange program to enable employees that have been in the company for a specific time to work from our different offices around the globe. This initiative will offer an excellent opportunity for our employees to see another place and meet their international colleagues.

We are also developing a nomad program to empower employees to work in different countries for a couple of weeks.

What advice would you give to someone looking to join Hivebrite?

Have a look at our product. It isn’t a simple one, and you need to like the product to understand your missions at Hivebrite fully.

Check out our blog articles and Youtube videos to discover more about the community industry, our product, and our company. Ask yourself if all of this interests you. Try to picture yourself in three years and ask yourself if you would still be passionate about what we do, your job, and the product you’ll be working with.

What’s the funniest question a candidate has asked you in an interview?

Haha, you’re putting me on the spot now! I can’t think of any specific question, but I have noticed an interesting trend.

A couple of years ago, the question during interviews was, why should we hire you? But now, candidates are changing the narrative and asking why they should join us. This change is exciting, and HR Departments need to work hard to build healthy work environments to attract and retain talent.

Ready for a new challenge? Check out our open positions here!

May marks Mental Health Awareness month—a time to raise awareness and educate people about mental health issues and help reduce the stigma that so many people experience.

Mental health represents a vital part of our overall health. It affects how we think, act, and feel.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in four people will be affected by mental or neurological disorders in their lifetime. And during the first year of the pandemic alone, the global prevalence of anxiety and depression increased by a massive 25%.

Online communities can provide a lifeline for people affected by mental health issues—providing help, support, resources, company, and more to people in need.

Hivebrite is honored to partner with some incredible communities focused on mental health and wellbeing. And in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we are shining a spotlight on these communities and their extraordinary work.

Club Peloton

Club Peloton is a charity and community of people who love to cycle, network, and fundraise. The community works predominantly in the built environment sector and combines members’ passion for cycling with the opportunity to network and fundraise for several projects.

As a charity, Club Peloton actively works to raise money to improve the lives of young people. Since 2006, it has raised £4.5 million for various projects.

The community’s flagship events include the women-only pedElle ride, Cycle to MAPIC, and the long-running Cycle to MIPIM. These events create unique team efforts that form memories and friendships for life. At the heart of the community’s ethos is its friendly and interactive atmosphere.

“As a fundraising community focusing on charity cycling challenges, wellbeing and mental health are very much at the center of what we do.

In addition to our multi-day challenge events, our community also comes together for regular training rides and off-bike networking events. For many of our riders, cycling isn’t just a way to stay fit physically and mentally: it’s an outlet to relieve stress, relax, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Over the years, we’ve found that engaging our community through our events, rides, and great content helps bring people together and provides a friendship and support network that lasts long after the ride has finished.”

Nick Hanmer, CEO, Club Peloton

The Network provides opportunities to connect with peers, leadership development, access to live events, resources, and links to organizations and projects about lived experience leadership.

The Network’s initiative, “Finding My North–Lived Experience Stories”, showcases lived experience leaders’ stories of recovery and leadership to  learn from and inspire each other.

“For those who have had to tread carefully about how they describe their mental health story, the community is an opportunity to find freedom and empowerment, speak, listen, and build a collective voice with others who understand the complex reality of mental illness. We are committed to amplifying the voice of lived experience and strive to ignite hope and inspire people who struggle with mental health issues to live a healthier life.

I am learning to own my voice, story, and personal journey of recovery. I have recognized that no one is beyond saving and that no one is broken beyond help, myself included.”

Meet the Team: Ahmed, Customer Success Manager

Hello Ahmed, could you tell us more about yourself?

I graduated in 2014 but have been working in support roles since 2009, when I first started college.

I worked for a course management system during my early years in support. I then moved to Livefyre, a martech startup.  I worked here for about a year before Adobe acquired the company, and I worked there for three years before heading to Hivebrite.

Initially, I joined Hivebrite as a Senior Support Engineer and then moved to be a Customer Success Manager, which I’d wanted to do before joining Hivebrite.

Why did you choose to work at Hivebrite?

After Adobe, I wanted to try something new, so I interviewed to become a Customer Success Manager. That’s when I came across Hivebrite. I enjoyed exchanging with each person during the interview process. I was particularly impressed by the team’s passion for the community industry and expertise.

The company had about 35 employees at that time and I was one of the first employees in the USA office. I made sure to ask about the company culture since that is a very important factor to me.

As a smaller company with a great culture, Hivebrite attracted me very much and that’s why I ended up joining the team as a Support Engineer at first despite initially looking to become a Customer Success Manager.

It feels like I’ve only been with the company for a month even though I’ve been here for over two and a half years. Hivebrite seeks to continually innovate its community engagement platform, so  there are always new things to discover. The environment is fast-paced and I’m learning every day, which is fantastic.

What does a typical day with the Customer Success team look like?

When I started on the support team, a typical day consisted of opening emails, checking the tickets, and answering them. It was pretty standard.

My days as a CSM (Customer Success Manager) are very varied. Some days I have meetings with clients to discuss challenges, feature requests, or any other discussions regarding the product. Other days, I’m just digging through emails and responding to different kinds of client queries.

My favorite part of the day is meeting with the clients. I genuinely enjoy connecting with them over calls and getting to know them. You don’t always get this level of interaction when working in support and it’s one of the main reasons I wanted to become a CSM in the first place. I love discovering more about my clients and supporting their community goals.

What’s your superpower at Hivebrite?

A lot of people trust me when it comes to technical topics – APIs, White Label URLs, or other complex technical aspects that are challenging. I suppose I am one of the most technical people on the Customer Success Team.

Could you tell us about one of your proudest moments at Hivebrite?

I was in a completely new world when I became a CSM. Gonzalo, our Chief Customer Officer, trusted me right off the bat and assigned me to one of our biggest clients.

This made me feel valuable and boosted my confidence in my abilities as a CSM. It was undoubtedly one of my proudest moments since I was entrusted with one of our largest clients.

What would you suggest to communities seeking better engagement?

There is no single, easy answer.

It’s always different for different clients.

But the biggest piece of advice I would give is to ask yourself: What is the purpose of your community? What do you want members to take away from your community platform?

It is important to identify goals for the community and take actionable steps to achieve them.

Once you define the community’s purpose, find ambassadors within the community. Your community ambassadors are your most active members who are most aligned with your purpose. They help spread the vision of your community, bringing other members onboard while sharing their time, insights, and advice to support your success.

What is the company culture at Hivebrite like?

I mean, it’s awesome. That’s the first thing that comes to my mind. It’s a global company that understands how to communicate with everyone across language and cultural barriers.

There are many things that I appreciate about Hivebrite, but if there’s one thing that we do best, it’s that we hire the right people. As cliche as it sounds, we’re like a big family.

When we visited Paris recently for a team off-site. Some people had never met each other face to face before and others had not seen each other for a long time. Despite this, everyone clicked. Everyone is kind, welcoming, understanding, and honestly super talented.

Could you tell us one thing about Hivebrite that outsiders don’t know?

I think that Hivebrite is as old as it is.

The company is about ten years old, and it was called KIT United (Keep In Touch) before this.

There was no US presence until 2018, and then in the past four years, it grew exponentially. We now work with Princeton Alumni Association, Girl Up, the American Bar Association, NYSE, and many other prominent organizations.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to join the Customer Success Team at Hivebrite?

Be yourself. As long as you’re open-minded and appreciate diversity – I think you will find a great place at Hivebrite.

Everyone from the team has a diverse background with different talents, ideas, and knowledge that make us better as a team.

Everyone’s thinking is slightly different, but everyone is open-minded to new perspectives.
